This Thursday, 9, at 19:00, the Vale Maranhão Cultural Center begins its Carnival program. There will be three attractions that will bring the magic of Momo’s revelry to the Open Courtyard.
Starting the party is the Turma do Quinto Samba School, with the show Gang of the Fifth of All Times, which will take a tour through the history of one of the most successful associations of the Maranhão Carnival, with unforgettable sambas-plots that permeate the memory of the revelers, such as Praia Grande (1981), Dream Days and Festivities (1979) and Both Burning and Delaying (1983).
On the 16th, Carnival Thursday, it is the turn of the traditional block Os Brasinhas, a prominent presence in the Maranhão revelry both on the streets and on the catwalk, where it has shone since 1977 at the official São Luís parades. Its repertoire includes the group’s songs taken to the parades, as well as versions of MPB classics adapted to the block’s beat.
Closing the Carnival program on Thursday, the 23rd, samba artist Luppretinha Barros presents the show Samba de Rainha, with a dance performance by one of the greatest drum queens of the São Luís Carnival. Accompanied by live music, the show will include sambas-plots from the Maranhão schools where the artist has already performed.
The entire program is free of charge and with free referral. Vale Maranhão Cultural Center is located at Rua Direita, 149, Historic Center of São Luís.
