Bumba Meu Boi Estrela de São João brings to São Luís the original accent of the Baixada Maranhense

Directly from Monção (MA), Bumba Meu Boi Estrela de São João brings to São Luís its original accent from the Baixadas Maranhense, with sounds extracted from jaguars drums, markings and matracas, surrounded by Indians, cowboys and cazumbás.

Also known as the “Deaf Ox”, the São João Star Ox emerged from encounters experienced between three friends, who came together to talk, sing tunes and remember the parties they attended in their inner days.

The game grew, the community was united with the players, people from other interiors got closer and the game was officially founded in 2023, with the intention of keeping those memories alive and not letting Penalva and Monção’s accents slip into oblivion.
