Tambor de Crioula de Santa Fé opens Black Consciousness month proceedings at the CCVM

07 November 2024 to 19:00

Opening the CCVM’s Black Consciousness month proceedings, we will receive the Santa Fé Creole Drum in the Open Courtyard this week. With 22 years of existence, the group operates in various aspects throughout its trajectory: training projects, dance workshops, singing, instruments and percussion of the Creoula drum, in addition to the traditional participation in the carnival cycle and the June festivities.

The story of the Santa Fe Creole Drum United began during the 2002 carnival, when the singer Zé Olhinho was playing Anivô’s Creole Drum at the São Pantaleão circuit in São Luís. There, Zé Olhinho met Mrs. Maria Micol Carvalho and, at the time, she suggested that he form his own group. Although he hesitated, Zé Olhinho ended up forming a group that began with 20 sheepdogs and 15 sheepdogs.

Then the invitation is made: on Thursday (7), starting at 19:00 p.m., lambrequins and crowns from São Luís will be welcomed to the drum circle of this dance, which is Intangible Cultural Heritage!
