Saint John without leaving home! CCVM online programming has Bumba Meu Boi and cordel

15 to 18 June 2022

The Vale Maranhão Cultural Center has prepared a virtual program for those who want to enjoy São João without leaving home. From Wednesday to Saturday, the institution’s YouTube channel will have videos of performances by Caixeiras and Bumba Meu Boi, as well as a sudden string show. Check out the schedule:

All attractions are from the interior of Maranhão and are part of the Pátio Aberto project. The videos always open at 19:00. Watch and honor Maranhão culture.

The show “Suddenly the Cordel”, presented by the cordelista Canário Branco, brings a tour of the history of the genre, from its emergence in the Northeast to its current importance, through authorial songs and other Brazilian artists.

The Caixeiras do Divino Espírito Santo of the quilombola community of Oiteiro in Monção are presented with the tradition of playing drums, songs and verses of the Maranhão popular festival.
