From March 1st to 4th, at 19:00, the Vale Maranhão Cultural Center will exhibit the Occupy CCVM Exhibition. In its programming, the event presents the films selected in the Ocupa CCVM Audiovisual public tender held in 2022. In all, eleven documentaries received funding to be produced or finalized, encompassing a variety of topics such as popular culture, queer artists from Maranhão, religious diversity, and Afro culture.
Among the highlights, the medium-length film Vos do Munim, directed by the artist Claudia Marreiros, provokes a debate about the relevance of orality in the process of identity and memory, starting from the point of view of a granddaughter who has not met her grandparents and is still searching for her identity references. In this journey, when faced with grandparents who are contemporary with his own, he finds in musicality the connection with the miscegenation that gave rise to what is now known as the Munim region, in the interior of Maranhão. The film opens on March 1st.
The documentary “Akomabu – culture must not die”, directed by Helen Maria and Juliana Hadad, presents the story of Akomabu, the first Afro-Brazilian block from Maranhão born in the early 80s, told through the testimony of founders and players, who reveal memories, joys, sorrows and, above all, the desire to perpetuate tradition. “There is lipstick in reggae”, by director Paulo do Vale, tells the story of the struggle and resistance of the DJs Sandra Marley, Tassila de Paula and Nega Glícia in the Maranhão reggaeiro movement, dominated by the male figure in the salons.
The CCVM Occupy Exhibition will also present important records of events that have never been documented, such as Bumba Meu Boi Chego Cravo das Moças, from the municipality of Tutóia, and the second stage of the celebration of São Raimundo Nonato dos Mulundus, held further away from the city of Vargem Grande. The documentaries are directed by Reinilda Oliveira and Laécio Fontenele, respectively.
In addition to the sessions, there will be a chat with the directors at the end of the screenings. The entire program is free of charge.
