Screenings of short films and debates about black genocide and female leaders in popular culture are part of the program prepared by the Vale Maranhão Cultural Center to celebrate Black Awareness Day, celebrated on November 20.
The documentary Genocide and Movements, by the directors Andreia Beatriz, Luís Carlos de Alencar and Hamilton Borges dos Santos, will be screened on Tuesday, the 21st, at 19:30pm. In an hour of documentary, there are exhibitions and discussions about the frequent deaths of black people in the suburbs, mostly caused by a violent and racist public safety policy. After the film, director Andreia Beatriz joins lawyer Erik Moraes for a debate on the issues present in the feature film.
The program expands to the Coroadinho neighborhood on Wednesday, 22, starting at 19:00, with an exhibition of short films. The movies The Favela is in the mood, Our Party Will Start Now, Banzeiro and Maresia, Taquariana and It’s Almost Good will be screened, followed by a chat with the directors. The event will be held at Casa das Pretas, located at Av José Sarney, No. 01, Bom Jesus.
Celebrating black music, singer Camila Reis will release her new album Songs of a Black Woman in the Open Courtyard every Thursday at 19:00. The EP brings together original songs born from the countless possibilities of being and existing of black women, celebrating love, pain, orixás, and people living together with the artist.
Closing the week, on Friday, at 19:30pm, the open conversation Female Leadership in the Bumba Meu Boi groups will bring together the presidents of the Bumba Meu Boi de Maracanã, Leonardo and Floresta groups – Maria José Soares, Regina Avelar and Nadir Cruz, respectively – for a debate on the strength and resistance of black women at the head of popular culture games in Maranhão. The architect and urban planner, urban planner from the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development, and visual arts technician Larissa Anchieta will mediate. Closing with a golden key, the presentation of the Crioula Drum Daughters of Saint Benedict.
