The revelry will begin all over Brazil and at the Vale Maranhão Cultural Center it will be no different. Entering the city’s carnival calendar, the CCVM opens the revelry with the Marambaia Samba School on Thursday, February 8, and closes the party with the traditional block Os Foliões, on the Thursday after Ash Wednesday, on the 15th.
Created in 1954, in the neighborhood of Fátima, the Marambaia Samba School celebrates 70 years with its sambas-plots that demonstrate the pride of having been born on the outskirts of São Luís. The association is chaired by Maria Célia Santos Ribeiro, the only female director of the Samba School.
The traditional Os Foliões Block has 46 years of history and is one of the Maranhão carnival. For the performance at the CCVM, they chose a mix of classics from Maranhão music with popular songs and rhythms, such as samba and reggae.
Presentations are free and will begin at 19:00 p.m. The CCVM is located at Rua Direita, 149, São Luís Historic Center.
