More programs offered by the CCVM will make up the program for the 16th Maranhão Dance Week.
On November 29, Initiation in Percussion and African Dances will welcome those who wish to start or improve themselves in traditional African dances — with an emphasis on countries such as Angola and Burkina Faso — Afro-Brazilian dances such as Afoxé, Maculelê, Maracatu and Frevo; and percussion of traditional African rhythms from Angola and Mozambique.
In addition to the workshop, the show Roda Favela will close the programs for the 16th Maranhão Dance Week at the Arthur Azevedo Theater on November 30. The show brings together 12 dancers from favelas in Recife who make up Grupo Pé no Chão. They transport us into communities, where they present their daily survival, dreams achieved, jobs, multiple forms of discrimination, violence, and moments of joy. An exaltation to the strength of the collective and of its Afro roots. Twelve characters made of strength and fragility simultaneously.
The programs are a partnership between the CCVM and the French Embassy and the French Consulate in Recife, and will be offered by the CIA. Ophélia Theater, directed by Laurent Poncelet, actor, film director and founder of FITA Rhône-Alpes – International Action Theater Festival – a meeting point between culture and people in situations of social vulnerability. This year the 11th edition will take place in France.
Are you interested? Registration for the workshop is made in person on the day of class, 1 hour in advance. And tickets for the show can be picked up at the Arthur Azevedo Theater box office starting at 17:00 on November 30.
