DANÇA HERE Program - Registration open

27 February to 20 March 2020

Enrollment is now open for the second edition of the DANÇA AQUI program, which selects street dance groups based in São Luís or cities on the Grande Ilha, which are interested in occupying the CCVM rooms to rehearse on Saturdays. Up to eight street dance groups will be selected and will rehearse on the premises of the CCVM for four months. The program will run from April to December 2020. At the end of the rehearsal stage, an exhibition will be held, bringing together presentations from all groups. Each selected group will suggest dance professionals, recognized in the area in which they work, so that they can come carry out workshops that help in the development of the work, the workshops will also be open to the public. Those selected will have access to available sound, lighting and projection equipment, as well as a cost allowance for transportation and costumes. In 2019, the dance groups Revolution of the Streets/CIA participated in the program. Arte e Rua, Krump Up SLZ, Lesser Funk, LionHearted Fam, Plano B Crew, Enme + Juçara Squad and Crushes. Kid Guma (SP), André Rockmaster (SP), Sidy IDD (RJ), Marcelinho BackSpin (SP), Lucas Montty (BA), Queen Buckhype (Germany) and Kid Eyes (Ghana/Germany) came to São Luís to hold workshops , creating special opportunities for improvement and contacts for dancers from Maranhão. Singer Enme, with her group Juçara Squad, participated in DANÇA AQUI in the second half of 2019. She highlights the stimulus that the program gives to hip hop culture and artists who are usually on the sidelines. “Having a space for studying, producing, exchanging experience and rehearsing helped us to develop great performances. Everything is a chain reaction, with the improvements came visibility and recognition, such as the award we received in São Paulo”, he considers. “DANÇA HERE helped the groups a lot. It's very difficult to get a space to rehearse and the CCVM provided that. We had the workshops with guests from abroad, which allowed for greater quality in our work. I learned a lot, we were together, dreaming together with the other groups, studying, exchanging ideas, which made us get closer as a movement and as dancers”, recalls Gilvan Outsider, dancer from Krump Up SL. For Romildo Rocha, coordinator of the group Os Menos do Funk, formed by teenagers from Vila Embratel, in addition to improving dance technique, DANÇA AQUI also encouraged the participants to exercise their citizenship. “The notice made the boys leave Vila Embratel and get to know another environment, as many of them did not have this possibility. Everything was very new, they learned to live together, they got to know new rules, customs. We were surprised at each rehearsal. They also met an idol they only followed through social media, Sidy IDD, who gave a workshop especially for them. Everything was well thought out, the allowance, the snack, the costumes produced. It was a great opportunity for all of us”, he says. The director and curator of CCVM, Paula Porta, points out that “dance has a lot of strength in Maranhão, we can see it both in popular culture and in the culture of the suburbs. The CCVM has been active in this field, seeking to strengthen groups. The 2019 edition was wonderful, in addition to the energy of the groups we had the pleasure of living with throughout the year, the workshops were incredible and had a great public participation”.
