Vila Fé em Deus Crioula Drum (Santa Rita) is the attraction of this farm (04), at Pátio Aberto

04 July 2019

The quilombo group from Vila Fé em Deus, in Santa Rita, performs in São Luís, on Thursday (04), at 7pm. It was created in 1940 by Venâncio Barbosa and is currently run by his son, Otacílio Barbosa. Every November 28th there is a party in the quilombo to commemorate the drum's birthday and to praise São Benedito da Casa do Forno. With 38 members, the group has as one of its characteristics the men's punga, when a leatherman hits his thigh against the other, sometimes with the intention of knocking him down, as in the jokes of some time ago. But there are also women to men and women to women!
