The drumbeat heats up for São João do CCVM! Closing the month of May, we will host two Creole Drum groups

23 to 31 May 2024 to 19:00

Here at the CCVM, there is São João and popular culture all year round. Closing the month of May, we will receive two Creole Drum groups to warm up the drums for São João.

On Thursday, May 23, we will receive the 30 members of Tambor de Crioula Brilho da União, from Vila Mauro Fecury I, in São Luís. The group is a reference in the neighborhood, where it also has a Bumba Meu Boi of the same name and more than 100 players.

On the last day of the month, the 31st, it is the turn of the São Benedito Crioula Mimo Drum, also known as the Ivar Saldanha Drum. The group was founded in 1940 by Mestre Lauro, and after his departure it was under the command of his widow Maria da Paes. Currently, Ivar Saldanha’s gang still maintains São João’s Bumba Meu Boi Mimo and São Benedito’s Crioula Mimo Drum.

All programming is free. The CCVM is located at Rua Direita, 149, São Luís Historic Center.
