The Dance of Tamassaê, from the Baiacuí village (Icatu) is an attraction of this farm's Pátio Aberto

18 July 2019

This Thursday (18), at 7:00 pm , the Pátio Aberto welcomes Dona Martinha and all the gang from Tamassaê , from Povoado Baiacuí (Icatu) . The dance was created in the 1940 carnival by Oséas Gomes, a resident of the Baiacuí village, who dressed in women's clothes and produced a lively rhythm by hitting the kerosene can. The game, unique in Maranhão, was popular with the people and is still alive in the community. Dona Martinha coordinates the group of 40 players. The presentation begins with a carnival marchinha, but soon moves to a mina nagô beat, accompanied by singing and dancing. Led by singer Carlos César, the band brings together drums, ganzá, gourd, tambourine, sax and trumpet.
