With 24 years of history, the Pungar da Ilha Crioula Drum opens CCVM’s programs for the month of April with a performance that brings together tradition, faith and resistance.

Recognized since 2007 as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Brazil by IPHAN, the Crioula Drum is an Afro-Brazilian cultural expression marked by devotion to Saint Benedict.

The Pungar da Ilha group carries on its drums the strength of these Afro-Maranhão roots, keeping alive one of the most important manifestations of our popular culture.
