Showcase MAPEARTE: Varrendo Exhibition - Brooms and Vasculhadores of Maranhão - Open to Visitors

18 to 30 November 2019

The exhibition Varrendo – Vassouras e Vasculhadores do Maranhão presents pieces produced by 70 artisans from 36 municipalities. Almost all of them – with the exception of recycled pet brooms – are made from vegetable fibers, which are abundant in the state: carnauba, juçara, buriti, babassu, caraná, guarimã, vine, sisal and tobacco. With basic finishes or ornamental stitching, the sweeping pieces are produced in all regions and sold at very low prices. An indispensable item in everyday life, the purchase of this product is a way to support artisans from Maranhão. Some are beautiful, which can also be used to decorate. Put down your plastic broom and place your order. The artisan contacts are available in the CCVM lobby. Open to visitors, from Tuesday to Saturday, from 10 am to 7 pm, in the CCVM lobby. MAPEARTE Mapamento do Artesanato Maranhão – MAPERARTE is a project that identifies the artisans working in Maranhão with the aim of promoting their work and creating income opportunities. The craftsmanship from Maranhão is quite diverse and has high quality of execution, but it is still little known nationally and even locally. The first stage of the project involves mapping 100 municipalities and currently has identified 3,700 artisans. The project has the support of the Government of Maranhão and the sponsorship of Vale. CCVM is a partner of MAPEARTE in dissemination actions, seeking to expand this initiative. We created the VITRINE MAPEARTE to display small samples of what has already been mapped.
