Quelly - National Film Festival of Genres presents new films in Maranhão

11 to 12 June 2019

The Vale Maranhão Cultural Center receives, on the 11th and 12th, the Quelly Exhibition. The program features award-winning films that were successful in national and international festivals. All productions are unpublished in Maranhão. The Mostra, created by filmmaker George Pedrosa, in partnership with producers Josh Baconi and Gabriel Marques, was selected in the Public Notice Pátio Aberto 2019. The program features six short films and one feature, produced in different regions of the country, which represent the eyes of Brazilian filmmakers on the LGBTQ+ theme. The title of the Mostra is a tribute to the transsexual Quelly da Silva, who died in January this year, a victim of transphobia. George Pedrosa, responsible for the selection of the films, explains the motivation of the Mostra: “These are titles that have a unique approach to the LGBTQ+ experience. We want not only to show good quality films, but also to create an opportunity for local filmmakers to get to know what is being done and be encouraged to create projects in this field.” The director of Centro Cultural Vale Maranhão highlights the diversity of projects selected by the Pátio notice. Open in terms of languages and themes: "a cultural center must be attentive and open space for the plurality of cultural languages and also for the scathing themes that are being addressed by creators around the world, gender issues are among these themes and they are the focus of an extensive and expressive production in the visual arts, cinema, theater, dance, in short, in literature.” SCHEDULE Day 11 (Tuesday) 6:00 pm Ticket delivery 7:00 pm Opening of the event: Show presentation and performance with the Drags Britnega and Blue Berry 7:30 pm Screening of the films: Profana Vaca Directed by: René Guerra Fiction / Duration: 15 min./ São Paulo, 2017/ 18 years old.
