Blackness Attitude

Negritude Attitude is a project created by historian Paula Porta, which brings together personalities from different generations and areas of activity to talk about the current and meanings of the concept of Negritude.

“The testimonies bring deep reflections. Our expectation is that the videos will contribute to strengthening and instigating young people. Let them reach those who will soon be faced with this dysfunctional society, in which the majority of the population is untreated and subjected to violence of all kinds because of their physical characteristics. It is necessary to know more about the experiences, trajectories, thinking and productions of the black population to understand how much racism hinders us and makes talent and creative energy waste”, highlights Paula.

For the co-director and responsible for photography, Jonas Pires, the project “is of great importance to our people, 76% of the population of Maranhão is black! We know how much we have to struggle to get somewhere and confrontation, education, and awareness are necessary to move forward! Audiovisual can go a long way and is a powerful tool against oppression and inequality.”

In all, there will be 11 episodes shown and a film is planned at the end of the project.
