Pátio Aberto: Workshop with the Folklore Group of Mangaba São Gonçalo (Bacabal) - Discover the Mangaba dance and play in the Pátio Aberto!

12 March 2020

The workshop with the Folklore Group of Mangaba São Gonçalo (Bacabal) takes place on Thursday (12) at 7 pm , through the Pátio Aberto project. Free programming, for all ages. Mangaba, a manifestation of Maranhão culture that is very present in the interior, is played to the sound of drums from boxes, leather stools and taroes. The singers and cantadeiras suddenly take off the songs, which talk about life in the countryside, their customs and nature, always in an irreverent way, with lightness and joy. The players perform an intertwined ballet that resembles the number 8, almost always caxing (limping) and improvising freely, without losing the dance cadence. Mangaba is fun, a form of leisure for the community, which takes place mainly during June festivities. The Folklore Group of Mangaba São Gonçalo was created, in devotion to the saint, by Mestres Dorinha and Floriza, a singer who currently runs the game. In addition to performing during São João, the group holds workshops and experiences about dance. The workshop will allow the public to get to know the tradition and learn ballet by interacting with the group. No need to sign up. Come closer! Come and meet Mangaba and play in the Pátio Aberto! Admission is free.
