Open Courtyard in double dose: CCVM hosts two Popular Culture attractions

14 to 15 September 2023 to 19:00

This week, the Vale Maranhão Cultural Center will have an Open Patio in a double dose. Bumba Meu Boi Revelação de São Marçal performs on a traditional Thursday night at 19:00. The group comes from the João Paulo neighborhood, where the Feast of Saint Marçal takes place every June 30th, occupying the streets with the encounter of matraca oxen from Maranhão.

The group was created in 2018, but despite its recent trajectory, it has among its members playing games that carry a wealth of knowledge of popular culture, inherited from their ancestors and through previous experiences in other games on the island of São Luís.

On Friday, also at 19:00, it is the turn of Companhia de Teatro Azeite Doce, from Centro Grande – Axixá (MA), with the show Joy of Living. The musical show will include comedies and homemade dramas in the repertoire, with songs of various rhythms performed by characters such as Gypsies, Preto Velho, hunters, peasants, etc.

All programming is free of charge. The Vale Maranhão Cultural Center is located at Rua Direita, 149, in the Historic Center of São Luís.
