Punga de men from Anajatuba heats up the CCVM Open Patio

31 July 2021 to 21:00

The Vale Maranhão Cultural Center virtually exhibits, this Saturday, 31, at 9 pm, the presentation of the Quilombo Quebra Men’s Criole Drum Punga. Very traditional in festivities of Quilombola communities, the men’s punga differs from the punga made by women because it takes on the thighs, simulating a competition.

Coming directly from the city of Anajatuba, who commands the game is Scholastic Master, with 80 years of dance, singing and wisdom inherited from parents and grandparents. “When I understood myself, my father was a sudden Creole Drum. And I accompanied him in every drum I had. I grew up and when I saw it, I already sang, danced and battered with him”, recalls the master.

The presentation can be watched on the CCVM YouTube channel.
