The Dança Aqui program, launched in 2019 by the Vale Maranhão Cultural Center – CCVM to encourage and provide rehearsal space for street dance artists, selected six groups to produce audiovisual works on the work they have been developing. Initially designed for face-to-face practice, the program was adapted to the current context of the Covid 19 pandemic, challenging those contemplated to experiment with new creative fronts that can be broadcast virtually. “The virtual world already occupied an important part in the lives of people and artists. In this period of pandemics, networks became urgent, prompting us to think of alternative forms of artistic making. The invitation we made to the artists is to try out the countless possibilities of creation between the languages of dance, video and virtual media”, says Gabriel Gutierrez, CCVM's manager and artistic coordinator. The groups will be accompanied by the artist-dancer Calu Zabel, curator and program coordinator. Calu explains that dance and video have been together for some time, although they are not automatically associated in the most common creative practices. “There is always, when we confront two artistic languages, a free field for experimentation. At this moment, I realize that filling these gaps is necessary, even more when we think about the power of the networks' dissemination reach”, considers the program coordinator. To carry out their creations, the groups will receive a prize of R$4,000.00, in addition to having technical support through workshops and conversations led by nationally recognized dance and audiovisual professionals. The results will be presented in a collective exhibition at the Centro Cultural Vale Maranhão, in the Historic Center of São Luís, on a date to be defined.
