The Vale Maranhão Cultural Center holds, from 11/04 to 12/12, the Black and Diversity Month at CCVM. As part of the program, from 10 to 14/11 (Tuesday to Saturday), from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm, the workshop The Orality as a Foundation of Education, with the actor, storyteller and master of griot culture from Burkina Faso, François Bamba and translation by artist Laura Tamiana. The artist invites everyone on a journey through the rich heritage of West African oral tradition societies. The workshop proposes experimentation and sharing, based on stories, fundamental elements in learning about life and listening to oneself, the other, and space, through dynamics of the art of telling, traditional repertoires and search of the personal word of each one. François Moïse Bamba is from the blacksmith caste, the masters of fire and iron. He was initiated into the art of short stories by his father and brought up in close relationship with the tradition of Burkina Faso's griot culture and art. He collected and rewrote numerous stories from his country, some of them giving rise to CDs, DVDs and books published in France. In his more than 20-year career, he has traveled the world performing. He was director of the Yeleen short story festival, and creator of the International Festival of Intangible Heritage – transmission of ancient knowledge and practices. In Brazil, he has a partnership with artist Laura Tamiana, with whom he created Ba-kô Burkina Brasil, an artistic-cultural bridge between Brazilian and West African cultures.
