Mestre Apolônio Forest Boi promotes workshop for making the Cazumba costume

26 October to 05 November 2021

The Vale Maranhão Cultural Center will hold, from October 26 to 28 and November 3 to 5, two workshops to make the costume of one of the most emblematic characters of São João do Maranhão: cazumba.

The first workshop will teach you how to make the famous face. Students will learn how to adorn it, using paint, strings, mirrors, and other elements that characterize the character’s mask. In the second round of classes, three types of cazumba coats will be produced, with the explanation of the use of props and the correct way to paint the fabric.

Classes will be taught by players from the Bumba Meu Boi da Floresta by Mestre Apolônio, who, in addition to making the items, intend to develop together with the students the process of creating and interpreting the traditional character, as well as all the symbolism existing in the elaboration as an artistic object.

Due to health restrictions due to the COVID19 pandemic, space for workshops is limited. To sign up, click on the links
