I'm not alone - Mostra Joel Zito Araújo and guests celebrate black culture in audiovisual

05 to 27 November 2021 to 19:00

The Vale Maranhão Cultural Center will hold, in a virtual and face-to-face way, the exhibition “I don’t walk alone – Mostra Joel Zito Araújo and guests”, as part of the program of the “Dialogues on education, art and culture”, an event promoted by the educational centers of the museums and cultural centers of the Vale Cultural Institute during the November. The exhibition identifies paths that operate in the transformation of the black image in cinema, affirming presence and issues of great importance in the construction of new perspectives on the subject.

As a special guest and curator of the show, filmmaker Joel Zito Araújo presents five films from his career, in addition to having selected important works by artists Zózimo Bulbul, Gabriel Martins and Chica Santos. “The exhibition is intended to give a panel that addresses issues of gender, race, sexuality of different generations, and broadens the awareness of what black cinema is in Brazil today. They are productions committed to the formation of critical thinking, acting to decolonize the imaginary of black people in the country,” says Joel.

The screenings will take place on Fridays of November, on the CCVM YouTube channel, and in person, on our patio, at 7 pm.
