Rhymes, verses and prose… História de Mudernagem is a string soiree presented by the Tapera de Cordel Cultural Collective to honor the strength of Cordel Literature in Maranhão, bringing together sudden artists and cordelists from São Luís and the interior of the State. An authorial repertoire of songs and sudden songs accompanied by string instruments.
The event is coordinated by actor, art educator and broadcaster Moizes Nobre, a master of Literature from Cordel from the National Secretariat for Cultural Diversity. He is also the author of the books “Mapping the Cordelistas do Maranhão” and “Eu e o Poema O Poema e Eu”. He holds chair 11 at the Academia Ateniense de Letras e Artes and chair 05 at the Academia de Letras e Saberes da Área Itaqui-Bacanga.

String literature is a type of popular poetry that is printed and disseminated in pamphlets and gets its name from the way they are sold, usually hung on twine or twine. Born in Europe, the tradition was introduced to Brazil by the Portuguese. To bring together the exponents of this literary genre, the Brazilian Academy of Literature of Cordel was founded in 1988, with headquarters in Rio de Janeiro. In September 2018, the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute – Iphan recognized string literature as Brazil’s intangible cultural heritage. Cordel Poet Day is celebrated on August 1st.
