Guinean ballerina Mariama Camara teaches dances and rhythms from her country in a workshop open to the public

22 to 26 November 2022

Guinean dancer, percussionist, singer, choreographer, and teacher Mariana Camara will teach the Guinean Dances workshop. Through the tripod, body movements, songs, and touches of rhythms, the artist shares a rereading of ancient meanings, transmitted from generation to generation in villages and ballets in Guinea, about African cultural diversity and immersion in knowledge of the history of the diaspora.

Mariama Camara has lived in Brazil for 7 years and has had an internationally consolidated career since 1999. He joined Les Ballets Africains (1999-2007) and danced with renowned artists such as Youssou N’dour, Youssouf Koumbassa and Salif Keita. Since 2007, she has been invited by groups and cultural producers that organize seminars, international camps, dance, percussion and singing courses and workshops in various countries in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the Americas.

The program will be offered by the CCVM as part of the 16th Maranhão Dance Week. Registrations must be made in person, on the first day of class, 1 hour in advance.

Note: There will be no class on November 24 due to the Brazil vs. Serbia match for the 2022 World Cup.
