Fusion of jazz with rhythms from popular culture in Maranhão: it's the Tangle by Isaías Alves

21 September 2023 to 19:00

The creativity, uniqueness, and ancestral strength of Isaías Alves Quartet will be presented this Thursday (21), at 19:00, in the Open Courtyard.

The result of the research and transposition of Maranhão rhythmic to modern drums and other instruments, the show Emaranhada suggests an immersion in the popular imagination through the musical connections between the drums and the percussion and handmade and electronic elements of Isaías Alves, combined with the harmonic textures of Carlos Ernane on the guitar, the pulsating lines of Emíló Furtado’s acoustic bass, and Andrezinho’s virtuosity on keyboards and arcodeon.

It is the fusion of jazz with rhythms from the popular culture of Maranhão, promoting the dissemination of musical production and enhancing the instrumental music scene. It’s the sacred and the popular, the scholar and the improvised meeting on stage.

The show’s proposal takes shape through experiences and observations from other cultures through which Isaías Alves has performed, such as Portugal, Egypt, Italy, France, England, Argentina, Venezuela, Sri Lanka, where he produced the albums “Lanka” and the intercontinental “Odyssey”, in partnership with artists Alba Santos (Spain), Aniel Someillan (Cuba) and Anurag Naidu (India).
