The leading figure within Bumba Meu Boi is traditionally male. However, opening the way for more gender equality within play, there are groups that are led by female teachers, bequeathing a new value to the female presence.
To exalt and value the work of these women at the head of their groups, the Vale Maranhão Cultural Center hosts this Thursday, November 3, at 19:00, in the Open Patio, the show Mestras da Baixada, composed by Mestra Duca, by Boizinho Encantado Proteção de Santo Antônio; Mestra Maria do Rosário, from Bumba Meu Boi Beautiful Jacareí Jewel; Master Ana Lice, from Bumba Meu Boi Original; and Master Isabel, from Bumba Meu Boi Brilliance of the Night from Sítio do Pica-Pau Amarelo.
The show is an initiative of the Central dos Bois do Sotaque da Baixada e Costa de Mão, an association founded in 2010 by masters and masters of Maranhão culture, with the objective of researching, developing and stimulating the accents of the Baixada and Costa de Mão, and fighting for the dissemination, appreciation and continuity of these groups.
Programming is free of charge. The Vale Maranhão Cultural Center is located at Rua Direita, 149, São Luís Historic Center.
