Cine Desterro: childhood and youth on the movie screen

18 January 2023 to 19:00

This Wednesday, the 18th, at 19:00, the Vale Maranhão Cultural Center will air the Cine Desterro, a national children’s film festival created for children and adolescents living in neighborhoods neighboring the Center, such as Desterro, Madre Deus, Lira, Belira, Anjo da Guarda, among others.

Conceived by audiovisual and cultural producer Gabriel Marques and publicist Maikel Mondego, the exhibition will showcase Brazilian productions that present Brazilian childhood and youth in different contexts — such as the lives of black children in the suburbs, religious intolerance, the reality of riverside communities, and adoption.

Short films from four regions of Brazil will be screened, including Ciclos da Tarde from Maranhão by director Jessica Lauane, which presents the routine of friends from Bairro de Fátima, in São Luís, who come together to play soccer like crazy and are surprised by trauma passed from generation to generation. In addition to the short film from Maranhão, 6 other productions complete the program: The Orphan, by Carolina Markowicz (Rio de Janeiro, 2018); Raone, by Camila Santana (São Paulo, 2021); New York, by Leo Tabosa (Pernambuco, 2018); I Am Superman, by Rodrigo Batista (São Paulo, 2018); Jamary, by Begê Muniz (Amazonas, 2021); and The Veil of Amani, by Renata Diniz (Federal District, 2019).

The exhibition is one of the projects approved in the Ocupa CCVM Audiovisual notice, which included 18 proposals that think, experiment, and focus on image and sound in their range of creation.

The Vale Maranhão Cultural Center program is completely free of charge. The CCVM is located at Rua Direita, 149, Centro Histórico.
