CCVM hosts Bumba Meu Boi, Tambor de Crioula and Cacuriá groups for special programming in the month of June

In the month of June, the musical program will be especially focused on the Maranhão festivities in June. Between Bumba Meu Boi plays and the Creoula and Cacuriá drum dances, the CCVM attractions start at 19:00:

June 5th (Friday), with Bumba Meu Boi Mimo de São João: opening the São João CCVM program, the group presents one of the accents that differentiate and mark the popular culture of Maranhão during the June Celebrations: the Matraca Ox.

June 11 (Thursday), with Bumba Meu Boi da Fortaleza: with more than 75 years of history, the group from Cururupu is one of the main representatives of the Sotaque Costa de Mão, a traditional expression of the bumba mio boi Maranhão, marked by the strength of popular black culture and Afro-Brazilian ancestry.

June 12 (Friday), with Bumba Meu Boi Brillo de Guaxenduba: directly from Quilombo Santa Maria de Guaxenduba, in the city of Icatu, the group preserves the tradition of the Matraca accent with clothing made from guaxima fiber, a plant native to the region. Created based on a promise to São João, the group unites ancestry, faith and popular culture in their games on the terreiro.

June 18 (Thursday), with Cacuriá Rosa Cigana: originated in Paço do Lumiar over 10 years ago, Cacuriá Rosa Cigana is composed of children and adults from the community itself, strengthening cultural ties and keeping alive one of the main manifestations of Maranhão culture.

June 19 (Friday), with Tambor de Crioula Roncador do Paraíso: traditional cultural group from Maranhão that keeps alive the strong Afro-Brazilian heritage of devotion, singing and circular dancing. The name of the group refers to the “roncador”, the largest of the three drums used in drum percussion, who controls the rhythm and improvisations of the wheel.

The Open Patio is another free CCVM program and starts at 19:00pm. The Vale Maranhão Cultural Center is located at Rua Direita, 149, São Luís Historic Center.
