23rd National Museum Week addresses the role of museums in the transformation of communities

With the theme “The future of museums in rapidly changing communities”, the CCVM opens its doors, from May 13 to 17, for a diversified program that celebrates the culture of Maranhão and reflects on the role of museums in the preservation and transformation of our communities.

The CCVM Museum Week will include activities ranging from the study of the historical and cultural dimensions of the Baixada Maranhense to artistic workshops that encourage the creation of visual narratives.

Among the activities, the following stand out:

May 13 to 16, at 14:00 — Materialities of the Inmaterial Baixada: historical and cultural dimensions of the Baixada do Maranhão, with Manoel Barros
A course that explores the historical and cultural processes of the Baixada Maranhense, addressing their identities and the cultural manifestations that marked the region.

May 13 to 17, at 15:00 — Building Poetics and Visual Narratives through Collage, with Silvana Mendes
Creative workshop that uses collage as an artistic language for creating visual narratives, combining personal references and repurposed elements.

May 15, at 19:00Viva São Gonçalo, with the Preto Martins Folk Group
A performance of the traditional São Gonçalo Ball, where the Preto Martins Folk Group brings out the vibrant tradition along the lines of the Baixada Maranhense.

The program closes on Saturday, May 17, with a visit mediated by the curators of the exhibition “With Love, Alcione”, a dive into the singer’s legacy and her influences.
